Liron Sissman, Liron art, Liron Zissman, artist, plein air painting, Hudson Valley
I was 11 when I realized what art meant to me. At the time I was visiting Holland and seeing Rembrandt’s original oil paintings.  The Power of the visual language: The depth of the emotions Rembrandt portrayed coupled with the mastery of rendering the human body, even its soul, struck me more than anything I have seen before or since.  The life I have lived and the gains I have experienced have only confirmed my feelings.

When I returned from Amsterdam I attempted my very first drawing, a portrait of my favorite poet in charcoal from a black and white photograph. I did not know that I could sharpen a charcoal and had no reason to expect much of the outcome. Yet I was pleasantly surprised.

Having experienced the emotions art can create and being encouraged by what I believed was my own yet-undeveloped potential I wanted to paint more than anything else.  However, growing up in a small economy and a technocratic society (Israel) art was not perceived as a viable career choice. I have earned a B.Sc. in Chemistry, Cum Laude, and hold an M.B.A. I completed the first year of Art School prior to leaving Israel. I later continued to take art classes at the New York Academy of Art for four additional years.  I started exhibiting my artwork in 2000.

Neither time nor a different life course changed my love. On the contrary, the longer I did not paint the harder it became to keep not doing it.
